Adele is no longer drinking — or soaking up — wine after realizing that she had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol in her 20s.

Adele, 35, revealed during her Las Vegas show earlier this month that she had quit drinking a while ago. She humorously described the experience as "boring" and confessed that she had been borderline alcoholic during her twenties, expressing her nostalgia for those days. Adele also disclosed that she eliminated caffeine from her routine. In addition, she acknowledged her envy when an audience member mentioned enjoying a whiskey sour, saying, "I'm incredibly jealous."

Throughout the years, the musician has openly discussed her struggles with alcohol, partly attributed to the loss of her estranged father, Mark Evans, in May 2021. Although Evans passed away due to bowel cancer, his life was marked by a long-standing battle with alcohol addiction.

"I've always been captivated by alcohol, as it was the barrier between my dad and me," Adele shared with Vogue in October 2021. "I've always been curious about what made it so appealing."

In 2021's "I Drink Wine," Adele alluded to both the positive and negative experiences she had with alcohol, as well as the childhood trauma associated with it.

"When I was young, every aspect of life held the power to amaze me. I would eagerly absorb everything around me, but now I find solace in the consumption of wine," she sings in her emotional ballad. "They claim that one must strike a balance between hard work and play, yet I have yet to encounter someone who is truly content."

Adele, who released her album 30 in November 2021, including the song "I Drink Wine," shared that she decided to quit drinking alcohol after her divorce from Simon Konecki and excessive consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic. (Adele and Konecki, aged 49, separated in 2019 and finalized their divorce two years later. They have a son named Angelo, who is now 10 years old.)

"I have embraced sobriety as a means to truly discover my true self," Adele revealed during her CBS Adele One Night Only concert in November 2021.

Humorously, she confessed that during the initial stages of her divorce, she single-handedly kept the alcohol industry thriving. However, she swiftly made a shift. "Once I acknowledged the need for self-improvement, I bid farewell to alcohol and committed to intensive workouts to stay grounded," the renowned singer reflected.

Earlier this year, Adele revealed to her concert audience during a March show of her Las Vegas residency that her alcohol consumption had escalated during the peak of the pandemic, but she eventually made the decision to quit drinking.

"I have a vivid memory of when I arrived here during the COVID lockdown. It was 11 a.m., and I had already consumed approximately four bottles of wine - just like everyone else," she shared with her fans through the Evening Standard. "I had declared in 2020 that I wanted to release my album. However, we were all at home, simply intoxicated."
