Highlights

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask expansion pass, a fresh region called Kitakami has been added for players to explore. This new area presents the opportunity to encounter elusive Pokemon from earlier generations, prominently featuring the introduction of Paldean Pokemon.

In Kitakami, it is easier to catch and Shiny Hunt specific Pokemon such as Petilil, Oricorio, Riolu, Mimikyu, Applin, Ralts, and Indeedee, compared to their availability in Paldea. Trainers can locate these Pokemon in various areas of Kitakami, including Wistful Fields, Reveler's Road, Infernal Pass, Timeless Woods, Apple Hills, Mossfell Confluence, and Oni Mountain.

The Teal Mask expansion pass in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet unlocked a new area called Kitakami for players. Along with new Pokemon and characters, players also encountered Pokemon from previous generations, including Paldea. Surprisingly, some of the Pokemon from Scarlet/Violet's Paldea Dex were more readily found in Kitakami than in Paldea itself.

Although the presence of Paldean Pokemon in Kitakami may seem repetitive, the Teal Mask expansion makes it easier to capture and even hunt for Shiny versions of the rarer species. Depending on the progression in Scarlet/Violet's main story, the Pokemon in Kitakami may have higher levels compared to their counterparts in Paldea.

1 Petilil

Petilil, originally exclusive to Pokemon White/White2, can now be found in both Paldea and Kitakami regions in Scarlet/Violet. Once exposed to a Sun Stone, it evolves into Lilligant. However, in Hisui/Pokemon Legends: Arceus, evolving Petilil will result in a Grass/Fighting-type Hisuian Lilligant.

Trainers looking for Petilil in West Province (Area One) in Paldea will often encounter Skiddo instead. In Kitakami, Petilil can commonly be found near the lake in Wistful Fields and along Reveler's Road. For trainers just beginning their Scarlet/Violet journey, catching a Petilil at around level 13-16 is advisable.

2 Oricorio

Scarlet and Violet players can encounter Pom-Pom Style and Baile Style Oricorio in South Province (Area One) and East Province (Area One) respectively. Pa'u and Sensu Style Oricorio cannot be found in the wild, so trainers interested in these styles must use pink and purple nectar. Despite Pom-Pom and Baile Style Oricorio appearing in Paldea, they are rare spawns.

In Teal Mask/Kitakami, there are numerous Sensu Style Oricorio near the lake in Wistful Fields. They spawn near trees adorned with purple flowers. Unlike Baile Style, Sensu Style is abundant in this area of Kitakami, making it easier to capture one and potentially Shiny Hunt it. However, those seeking Pa'u Style will still need to use pink nectar. Nonetheless, this is currently a more reliable method of capturing Oricorio.

3 Riolu

Riolu, a beloved Fighting/Steel-type Pokemon, evolves into the fan-favorite Lucario. As a result, trainers often make an effort to capture this fascinating creature. While not as rare as the Pom-Pom Style Oricorio, Riolu can only be found in specific locations. It appears in the South Province (Area Two and Area Four) as well as the North Province (Area One). If trainers are fortunate, they may come across one or two Riolu in these areas.

In Kitakami, Riolus can be found on the mountains of Reveler's Road, alongside Vulpix and Rockruff. Unlike Paldea, where Riolu sightings are limited, trainers in Kitakami have a higher chance of encountering more than two Riolu at once. Since Reveler's Road is a passageway that most trainers must traverse to reach the second signpost, it is advisable to consider seizing the opportunity to catch a Riolu along the way.

4 Mimikyu

Mimikyu, a beloved Ghost/Fairy-type Pokemon, is highly regarded by fans. While its true form remains a mystery, its Pikachu disguise gained immense popularity upon its debut in Pokemon Sun/Moon. However, encountering Mimikyu in Paldea is quite rare. It can be found in Tagtree Thicket near the Poison Squad Base, although the chances of encountering Impidimp and Morgrem are higher than stumbling upon Mimikyu.

In contrast, the Kitakami region is a more favorable location for encountering Mimikyu. It can be found in both the Infernal Pass and Timeless Woods. Additionally, with only 200 Pokemon in the Kitakami Dex, the likelihood of a mass outbreak of Mimikyu is higher in Kitakami compared to Paldea. It's worth noting that the Infernal Pass Mimikyu tends to be weaker than their counterparts in Timeless Woods (prior to completing the "The Way Home" main quest). Therefore, trainers embarking on their journey may want to consider capturing a Mimikyu in Kitakami instead of Paldea.

5 Applin

Applin, similar to Mimikyu, tends to reside in Tagtree Thicket. However, the challenge with finding Applins is that they tend to cling to trees instead of appearing on the ground like most Pokemon. To catch them, players must use the move headbutt with Koraidon/Miraidon, hoping to dislodge an Applin from the trees. Alternatively, players can hold down the ZL-button to target Applins that are out of reach. These rare Grass/Dragon-type Pokemon do not stand out to players who are not actively seeking them.

Fortunately, Applin has gained popularity in The Teal Mask due to its new evolution: Dipplin. In Apple Hills, an area west of Mossui Town, many Applins can be found on apple trees. The branches in this area are closer to the ground, making it easier to spot them. Additionally, there is a small chance to find a group of rolling Applins in the Apple Hills. Another spawning point for Applin is in the garden by the shed in Mossfell Confluence. Trainers can also purchase Syurpy Apples in this location, which are needed to evolve Applin into Dipplin.

6 Ralts

Ralts can sometimes be found early on in South Province (Area One) near Cabo Poco, although they are considered to be a more rare sighting compared to other Fairy-types like Igglybuff and Fidough. As trainers progress in their journey, they may come across Kirlia, and even eventually Gardevoir and Gallade. For instance, there is a Gardevoir located in Glaseado Mountain, but newcomers won't be able to access that area until later in the game.

Trainers who are not as fortunate to encounter a Ralts in South Province (Area One) can try their luck in Kitakami. Ralts can mainly be found in Wistful Fields alongside Kirlia, while more powerful Ralts and Kirlias reside in Timeless Woods.

7 Indeedee

Indeedee is a unique Pokemon that varies in appearance, learnsets, and base stats based on its gender. Male Indeedee excels in Attack, Special Attack, and Speed, while female Indeedee shines in Defense, Special Defense, and HP. In Paldea, you can find Indeedee in North Province (Area One) and 3/5-star Tera Raids.

Unlike other Pokemon native to Kitakami, Indeedee is not restricted to one habitat. You can encounter it in the Wistful Fields, Timeless Woods, and on Oni Mountain. However, if trainers explore Kitakami before completing the main story, the Indeedee in Wistful Fields/Oni Mountain will be lower-leveled compared to the ones in Paldea/North Province (Area One). Whether to include Indeedee in your team is a personal choice, but catching it is necessary to complete its Dex Entry.
