Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 3
Summary
The "Eye of Sion" possessed by Ahsoka has the ability to potentially retrieve Thrawn's Star Destroyer, bringing back the Grand Admiral to the known galaxy. This enormous hyperspace ring known as the Eye of Sion enables Morgan Elsbeth to access Thrawn, who has been exiled in a different galaxy.
The Chimaera, Thrawn's Star Destroyer, has the potential to dock within the Eye of Sion, enabling the possibility of bringing Thrawn and his crew back. Ahsoka's Eye of Sion sets the stage for the return of one of the Empire's most impressive Star Destroyers. Starring Rosario Dawson in the lead role of Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi has teamed up with her apprentice Sabine Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo) to thwart the return of the missing Imperial leader Grand Admiral Thrawn. In their efforts, they find themselves in opposition to Thrawn's agent, Lady Morgan Elsbeth, who has devised a method of bringing Thrawn back to the known galaxy.
In Ahsoka episode 3, it is revealed that Lady Morgan has constructed the Eye of Sion, a massive structure circling the planet Seatos. Ahsoka and Sabine face a challenging task as they are joined by mercenaries Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati, as well as former Imperial Inquisitor Marrok. Additionally, a new Star Wars theory proposes that the Eye of Sion possesses the ability to not only bring back Thrawn, who was banished to another galaxy after his defeat in the finale of Star Wars Rebels.
Ahsoka's Eye of Sion Explained
After Ahsoka and Sabine arrived in the Denab system, the Jedi droid Huyang successfully conducted a full scan of the Eye of Sion. Meanwhile, Ahsoka and Sabine skillfully evaded Elsbeth's forces led by Shin and Marrok in enemy fighters orbiting Seatos. Despite sustaining damage, the heroes managed to safely land their ship within the dense forests of Seatos. Huyang later confirmed his findings, revealing that the Eye of Sion was a colossal hyperspace ring with the ability to travel to different galaxies.
Similar to the hyperspace rings seen in the prequel trilogy, which aided smaller ships like Jedi starfighters in interstellar jumps between star systems, Huyang's analysis confirmed that the Eye of Sion possessed immense scale and power, enabling jumps between galaxies. Furthermore, the ancient star map, which was previously obtained by Ahsoka and later stolen by Morgan's agents in episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka, had provided Elsbeth with the route to Peridea. Peridea was situated in a separate galaxy and reportedly served as the place of exile for Thrawn, as well as potentially housing the missing Jedi, Ezra Bridger. However, it was highly likely that Thrawn was not the sole inhabitant of this newly discovered Star Wars galaxy.
Morgan Elsbeth's Hyperspace Ring Could Bring Back Thrawn's Star Destroyer-Theory Explained
In the finale of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger utilized his connection with a group of star whales called purrgil to transport himself and Thrawn away from Lothal, ultimately saving his home planet from Imperial control. Thanks to Ahsoka's confirmation, it has been revealed that they jumped to a different galaxy. It is worth noting that both Ezra and Thrawn were on board the Chimaera, Thrawn's flagship Star Destroyer, which had most of its crew still present during the unconventional jump with the purrgil.
Considering the immense size of the Eye of Sion, it appears possible for Thrawn's Star Destroyer to dock within the massive hyperspace ring, potentially allowing the ship and its commander to return to the known galaxy. This could also involve the nearly 10,000 Imperial crew members of the Chimaera (assuming they all survived alongside Thrawn). If Grand Admiral Thrawn were to make a comeback with such power behind him, including the remnants of the Lothal gateway to the Force nexus known as the World Between Worlds, it would bring about ominous implications for the future of the known galaxy.
What Makes The Chimaera So Unique In Star Wars?
The Empire possessed larger Star Destroyers, including Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer called The Executor. However, Thrawn's Chimaera stood out as exceptionally unique. Its distinct feature was a stylized three-headed serpent known as a chimera, which adorned the ship's underside. The chimera had long been Thrawn's personal symbol, even before he joined the Empire, and it would later become synonymous with Thrawn in the Star Wars galaxy, instilling fear among its inhabitants.
As the flagship of Thrawn's Seventh Fleet, the Chimaera underwent its own modifications. It boasted additional turbo lasers around its command tower, along with eight-barreled cannons, deviating from the more common double-barreled cannons found on most Imperial I-class Star Destroyers. However, the true strength of the Chimaera lay in its potential to accompany Thrawn, serving as a foreboding symbol of the Empire's resurgence in the galaxy. It possibly housed thousands of Imperial crew members, poised to reinforce the Imperial Remnant under Thrawn's new leadership as the "Heir to the Empire."
